Nice Videos, thank you for putting them up with English translation.
i like to know Prez Dimitri what was going on in your mind at that time?.. Did you have confidence that the Russian army will accomplish the mission that you gave her? If Georgia was part of NATO would you have done anything differently?

Hi George,

Thank you for your comment. I hope you've learned from the documentary something different from the "main stream" American media.

At that time many things were at stake. It was THE pivotal moment in my career as the Russian President. The conflict began with the Georgians firing at civilians as well at the Russian peacekeepers. While people were dying in hundreds (most of them were citizens of Russia), the world was silent. However, once we deployed the troops (the units belonging to the 58th Army), the whole world went 'crazy' yelling that we invaded the "peaceful and democratic Georgia". I had all the confidence in the Russian Army, however I new it would not be a 'walk in the park', for the Georgian army was armed to the teeth and trained with the help of the 'international community'. If Saakashvili wasn't backed by the USA, he wouldn't start killing civilians in Tsikhinvali. He also assumed that we wouldn't respond as we responded and try to appeal to 'international community' instead. Since the 'international community' was on his side, he thought he would get away with the atrocities.

If Georgia was part of NATO we would have done the same thing. However to become a NATO member Georgia would have to solve its territorial problems first. It would be against the NATO rules to admit Georgia "as it is", however, the laws are bend so often in politics, I would hardly be surprised if they admitted Georgia against the NATO rules.

... another factor that reinforced my confidence was that I had by my side such a strong and confident person as the Prime Minister Vladimir Putin. He almost immediately flew to Tskhinvali to oversee the rescue mission.

Hi prez Dimitri.
First of all want to send my condolences for the innocent people that were killed in a terrorist act in North Ossetia,...I hope you will do everything in your power so that the culprits will get caught,...
Thanks for your reply to my questions,...i agree you had no choice, sending the army in was the only choice you had to defend the peacekeepers and the South Ossetians.

Hi George,

Thank you for your kind words and condolences. Terrorism must be eliminated no matter in what country and who are the targets. We'll do everything possible and impossible to defend our people. Best wishes, RP

Oleg,

By using a word synonymous to "testicles" you imply that this documentary is a lie, and what you've seen on CNN - is an absolute truth?
